General

What is Small Team Benefits?

Small Team Benefits is a broker built specifically for small businesses. We compare options across a network of trusted carriers and give you a dedicated advisor - not a call center - to guide you from your first quote through every renewal after that.

Do I have to use all of your benefit options, or can I pick just one?

You don`t have to bundle everything together. Pick just one benefit or combine several - whatever makes sense for your team

Is there a cost to work with us?

No - Working whit us cost you nothing extra. Our fee is built into your premium by the carrier.

What size business do you work with?

We specialize in small teams - from just a couple of employees up to around twelve. If you're outside that range, ask us anyway; we're happy to point you in the right direction event if it`s not us

Health Coverage

How is this different from a traditional group plan?

Instead of locking your team into one plan the business chooses, you set a fixed monthly allowance and each employee picks the coverage that fits them. More flexible for them, more predictable for you.

How much do I contribute each month?

You choose the amount-it's a fixed monthly allowance you set for your business, not a number a carrier sets for you. We'll help you land on an amount that works for your budget

Can employees use it for any doctor or plan?

Yes. Since employees pick their own coverage, they're not limited to one network or one insurer -they choose the plan and doctors that work for them.

Is this reimbursement taxable for my employees?

No -when set up correctly, reimbursements are tax-free for your employees and the contribution is a deductible business expense for you.

How long does it take to set up?

Most businesses are up and running within a couple of weeks -we handle the paperwork so it doesn't fall on you.

What happens if an employee leave the company?

The policy belongs to the employee, not the business -so their coverage goes with them. Nothing for you to cancel or transfer.

Medicare

Is Medicare part of my group benefits plan?

No -Medicare is separate from your group coverage. We help people in your life -you, an employee, or a family member -navigate Medicare enrollment on their own, outside of your business plan.

Who is Medicare coverage for?

Anyone turning sixty-five, already Medicare-eligible, or a family member you're helping sort through their options. It doesn't have to be someone on your payroll.

Does it cost anything to get help enrolling?

No - our Medicare guidance is free. We're Paid by the carrier, not by you or the person we're helping

What the difference between Medicare and my employee health coverage?

Medicare is federal coverage for people sixty-five and older (or with certain disabilities). Your group benefits are for your active team. They're separate systems, and we can help with either-or both

When should someone start looking into Medicare?

Ideally a few months before turning sixty-five and older (or with certain disabilities). Your group benefits are for your active team. They're separate systems, and we can help with either-or both.

Can you help compare different Medicare plans?

Yes-we walk through your options across trusted carriers so you can see what actually fits, instead of guessing from mail piling up in the inbox

Critical Illness

Is this a replacement for health insurance?

No. It works alongside health insurance, not instead of it. It pays a cash benefit directly to your employee if they're diagnosed with a covered condition-to help with costs health insurance doesn`t cover

What counts as a qualifying diagnosis?

Typically conditions like heart attack, stroke, and cancer, though the exact list depends on the plan. We'll walk you through what's covered before you enroll.

What can the payout be used for?

Whatever the employee needs--rent, travel for treatment, lost income, or anything else. It's a cash benefit paid directly to them, with no restrictions on how it's spent

Is there a waiting period before coverage starts?

Most plans have a short waiting period after enrollment before a claim can be made. We'll tell you exactly what applies to your plan before your team signs up.

Can employees keep this coverage if they leave the company?

In many cases, yes-some plans are portable. We'll confirm the details for your specific plan so your team knows their options ahead of time.

Do employees need a medical exam to qualify?

Usually not. Most of our plans use simplified or guaranteed issue underwriting, meaning employees can enroll without a health exam

Dental Coverage

Is this dental insurance, or something else?

Yes, this is standalone dental coverage designed for small teams-preventive care, cleanings, and treatment for bigger procedures, depending on the plan.

Can employees keep their current dentist?

In most cases, yes. It depends on the plan and carrier network, so we'll help you confirm before enrolling.

Does it cover orthodontics, like braces?

Some plans do, depending on the coverage level you choose. We'll walk you through the options so you know exactly what's included.

Is there a waiting period for major procedures?

Many plans have a short waiting period before major work like crowns or root canals is covered. We'll confirm the specifics for your plan before enrollment.

Can employees add family members to their dental coverage?

Yes-most plans allow employees to add a spouse or dependents, usually at an additional cost that comes out of their own pay.

What if my business is very small-does dental still make sense?

Yes. Dental is one of the easiest benefits to ofter even for a team of just a couple of people, and it's often one of the most appreciated by employees.
